Sea Scout Academy was attended by more than 30 Scouts, including units from Orange and LA Counties.
Classes were taught by professional captains, and officers of the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and San Diego Sail & Power Squadron, as well as Quartermaster Scouts and other professionals.
The purpose of SSA is to help Scouts master Sea Scout skills, with an emphasis on those required for advancement. Courses included Rules of the Road, navigation, communication, weather, boat repair, marlinspike, rigging, project management, and ground tackle.
Generous contributors include the Maritime Institute, the West Marine rigging loft, American Rigging, Seabreeze Nautical Books, JK Computer Services, and Good Point Gas, and the International Guild of Knot Tiers.
