We all had a fine race this weekend. If you were not there you missed some fine sailing. Below are the results of the race. We hope to see you all at the starting line next month.
South Bay Family Sailing Series (SBFSS) July 15, 2017 Results (7.2 NM) Saturday, July 15, 2017 was an excellent day for sailing. The weather had been hot recently with temperatures around 75 to 80° F around the water and 95-98°F in the inland valleys. There was a hurricane 600 miles southwest of San Diego so the humidity was high with hazy visibility. Sporadic high clouds covered the horizon and the weather forcasters predicted light winds of around 9 knots in the afternoon. For the noon starting horn six boats maneuvered around the starting line. Marilee, Astra, Makai, Sea Story, Bon Temps and a new boat Consigliare were all there. All were planning to move north to south so they were on the starboard tack and had the right of way. Astra, with a boat full of Sea Scouts was first across the line followed by Marilee, Makai, Bon Temps, Consigliare and Sea Story. Rounding the first mark it was still Astra followed closely by Marilee with the remaining boats in a group far behind. As we passed through mark two, three, and four and five things slowly changed. The new boat Consigliari sailed by veteran Steve Brodbeck, began to catch the leaders. Times across the finish line were: Astra 13:24:24, Consigliare 13:25:52, Marilee 13:28:22, Bon Temps 13:31:45 Makai 13:44:00 and Sea Story 13:52:50. GREAT RACE! Winds were as predicted light at 10-11 knots. These conditions favored the lighter boats. Sea Story even with their aerodynamic kayak would not break ahead of the other boats. There were rumors around the docks that either Astra, or Consigliare had professional yachtsman, Dennis Connor aboard. These allegations were never proven. Putting all the finish times into the “Mike Collins Family Handicap System” the final results are as follows: Standings for race on 7/15/2017
Discouragment-to loose hope. Don’t be discouraged. Look at who crossed the finish line first and see where they finished up in the standings. There is always hope. Look at the yearly trophy winners. These are not always the fastest boats. Where is Atsa II, Phryxus, Bibbiy Bobbity Boat, Kabreez, Sarayu and others?? Don’t be discouraged. We hope to see you all out there for the August race: August 19, 2017 Saturday BRING A FRIEND AND HIS BOAT |
