Nice race on Saturday. We all had a fine time. Weather was perfect. If you were not there we missed you. Here are the results.
Saturday, August 19, 2017 was a prodigious day for sailing. There was early morning fog and as we motored away from our slip people on the dock said “…. A sailboat race? There is no wind. Are you crazy? You should buy a real boat-a power boat.” The forecasters predicted wind to 9 knots and we were not expecting a fast race. Eight boats were milling around the starting line for the noon horn. It looked like the forecasters might be right. The wind was hovering right around 8-9 knots. Across the line first was ATSA II. They were on the starboard tack and had the right of way. Following close behind was a pack of boats Madam Wu, Makai, Marilee, Consigliare, and Bibbity Bobbity Boat. All of these boats were across the line within 30 seconds of the lead boat. Following around two minutes behind the pack was Bon Temps with poor timing to the line. However, following even further behind was Astra who was 10 minutes behind. Generally everyone is really improving their starts. By the first mark the pack had spread out. First around buoy B was Consigliare followed by ATSA II and Bon Temps and the rest of the pack. By the ”second mark” the leaders remained the same. WE DISCOVERED THE SECOND MARK WAS MISSING AGAIN. We all had to go around the lat/long of the missing mark. (DOES ANYONE KNOW ANY ONE IN THE CORONADO CAYS YACHT CLUB? Let’s find out what they are doing with the marks.) The boats continued to spread out as the wind started to gust to 14-15 knots. Astra although starting 10 minutes late had worked its way third place for the final run home and the finish line. Astra finally finished in second place. Times across the finish line were: Consigliare 13:31:02, Astra 13:36:16, Bon Temps 13:36:26, Marilee 13:39:24, ATSA II 13:40:30, Makai 13:46:00, BBBoat 13:49:45 and Madam Wu 14:11:00. Congratulations all racers. It was a great day on the water. Madam Wu was a new boat on the course: WELCOME Madam Wu! We hope to see you out each month. Putting all this information into the Mike Collins Family Handicap System the final results are: Standings for race on 8/19/2017
Congratulations to all! Next race: September 16, 2017 Saturday See you all there and bring a friend. |
Full results to be posted soon:
First across the line was Astra, an Italian custom boat with a time of 13:36:16, 10 points to Astra.
