Saturday July 20, 2019 was a terrific day for sailing. White caps were around the whole south bay from the beginning of the race to the end. Winds were from the NW at 13-18 knots. Seven boats participated in the race and the majority of them had reefs in the main, or the jib. There were two other races in the south bay. One group was starting adjacent to our starting line so we did not blow the starting horn to confuse the starts. Boats participating were Bibbity Bobbity Boat, Atsa II, Phryxus, Astra, Consigliere, Bon Temps and Marilee.
It was nice to see Atsa II back on the race course. We have not seen them since they joined their elite yacht club on Shelter Island. We all still miss Makai, Fast Sunday and Madam Wu as well as others we have not seen for a while.
We had our typical pursuit race with starts at 12:00, 12:03, and 12:06. Just past the first mark the boats started to string out. Marilee took the lead and did not relinquish it.
